inside my bullet journal

Hey guys!! I hope that you’re all having amazing and hopefully stress-free days…

I’ve been wanting to post pictures from my bullet journal for SO LONG and that day is finally here (even though this post is up a day late because I’ve been super busy this weekend-but good busy.)

Anyways…I’ve been bullet journaling for almost a year (since January!) and (I like to think) my bullet journal has improved a lot…so, here are some of my favorite spreads as well as my setup for this month!

favorite spreads:

FullSizeRender

I know, June was so long ago but I love this spread so much! I was channeling the Beatles and thinking of the song “Hey Jude,” and June sounds similar, so I put that in too…I’m super happy with how it turned out and I like the constellations 🙂

IMG_5834

I was feeling especially motivated when I made this spread 😂 I love it though…it’s based on one of Amanda Rach Lee’s spreads that I found on Pinterest and it makes me so happy (also, if you’re a bullet journaler I’d totally recommend checking out her youtube channel!)

IMG_5836

I love this spread too- there’s something about the colors and the simplicity but also how the constellations fill up space and make it look even better 🙂

IMG_5835

I think I’m noticing a constellations theme here 😂😂 I love this spread maybe the most…I like the quote and how I outlined it with highlighters…it’s just aesthetically pleasing to me 🙂

this month’s layout:

IMG_5840

Here’s the opening thing for my month (I’m pretty sure there’s a better word than thing for it but oh well) I guess my theme is leaves? I’m not really sure, it just seemed like a good thing for fall. The cover page is based off of something I saw on Pinterest (but forgot to save…) and then I just added those leaves everywhere.

Last month I started doing my mood tracker as a graph type of thing and it makes me so happy because it looks really cool when the month is over 🙂

IMG_5839

This is pretty self explanatory but I’m just going to put random thoughts, doodles, and things on this page. It’s super simple but I love how it turned out 🙂

IMG_5841

My first spread of the month! I messed up and had to use white out a few times but it’s all good…This month I decided to add the “Happy Stuff” spread – I got this idea from Annie @ Blossoms and Bullet Journals (who has the most perfect bullet journal-I’m so jealous) and so far I’m loving it!

That’s it for my bullet journal post…I hope you enjoyed 🙂

Which spread is your favorite? Do you have a bullet journal? Should I do more bullet journal posts? I’d love to hear from you 🙂

I didn’t read that much this month. I’ve been sooo busy that I’ve been slacking a little…hopefully next month will be better.

  • Forever in Blue by Ann Brashares (Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants #4) ★★★★★ // hey I finished the whole series! {goodreads}
  • Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli ★★★★ // I’d say 4.5 stars…I actually watched this movie before reading the book (which I NEVER do, but it was available on an airplane…) and really liked it, and I liked the book too. {goodreads}
  • The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot ★★★★ // So I’m not quite done with this book but I thought I’d include it anyways, I’m really enjoying it and it’s making me realize how much I like reading nonfiction. {goodreads}

life divider

Life was good this month. Really busy, but good 🙂

Here are some things that happened… (because I love bullet points haha)

  • I got back into bullet journaling! I took a break kinda during the summer and with school back in session I’ve started bullet journaling again and I forgot how much fun it is! Stay tuned for a post on this
  • School started…it’s been super busy because I’m taking a lot of hard classes this year, but I’m enjoying my classes which is good.
  • I went homecoming dress shopping with friends! It was a ton of fun and I managed to find a dress that was way on sale and some shoes 🙂 I’m excited for homecoming this month!
  • I got to see a few friends who I hadn’t seen in a while (which is always a good thing 🙂 )
  • A bunch of new shows premiered and so I’ve been watching a lot of TV…(when I have time 🙂 )
  • I’ve been swimming really well in the past few meets and have dropped a lot of time in things, which is super exciting 🙂

How has your month been? Have you read any of the books I’ve read? Do you bullet journal? I’d love to hear from you 🙂

life update & tv show recommendations

Hey guys….does anyone else feel like this week has been especially long? For me it’s been filled with school and homework and swimming and I haven’t had time to do basically anything else. So I wanted to talk a little about my life right now and also recommend some tv shows because it’s fall where I live and fall is a great time for tv watching (right?)

Also…I meant to have this post up yesterday but my wifi wasn’t working well…so it wouldn’t let me post it.

Anyways…sorry, this first part starts off with a bit of a rant and so feel free to skip to my tv recommendations or just farther down:)

School. I love it, but at the same time there’s so much work and homework and stress that comes along with it. This week it feels like there’s just been a lot of stuff to do, and it’s not great.

Okay. I’m no longer ranting, and I’ll talk about some of the good things that have happened recently!

I hit 50 followers not too long ago and I just want to say thank you guys so so much! It really means a lot :))

I’m reading a really interesting book right now- it’s called The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (by Rebecca Skloot) and I’m really enjoying it. I haven’t read anything nonfiction in a really long time and I forgot how much I like it! I also really like science so that’s probably part of it 🙂

Ooh and I’ve been having a really good swim season this year, with lots of best times, so that’s great. It takes up a lot of my time but I really love it so it’s definitely worth it for me.

I’ve also been getting back into bullet journaling after slacking off a lot this summer…my spreads haven’t been very pretty (I’ll share some photos when they’re looking better haha) but I’m feeling pretty inspired to make them better.

So that’s basically all that’s going on in my life right now…I guess I’ll get into the show recommendations now!

Masterchef

This show is weirdly entertaining. I’m not a very good cook, and so I’m not really sure why I like it so much…there’s something about the pressure and watching everyone cook and taste food that makes it great. (hmm, maybe I like it because I like food…)

divider

Drop Dead Diva

I’ve gotten weirdly obsessed with this show and I’m not really sure why…it’s on Netflix, and is about a model who comes back to life in a lawyer’s body (it sounds a little strange, I know, but it’s kind of addicting.) I’d definitely recommend it 🙂

divider

Gilmore Girls

There’s nothing better than a rainy day spent watching Gilmore Girls 🙂 I really need to rewatch it (it’s that good.) If you haven’t seen it I would definitely recommend it! It’s such a happy show and I love all of the characters so much.

divider

The Kindness Diaries

So Starling actually wrote about this show in a post about her favorite tv shows not too long ago (thanks for the inspiration 😊) and I decided to check it out on Netflix and I love it! There’s only one season and I watched it in a few days I think…oops. It’s really good though, I would definitely recommend it-this guy travels around the world relying on strangers and their kindness.

divider

This Is Us

This show is so big right now and for a good reason- it’s so well done and is amazing. I’m super excited for the next season to come out soon…I just realized how much I like dramas 😂

divider

Grey’s Anatomy

Of course I had to put Grey’s on here…My friend and I are basically obsessed and if you’re into dramas I’d definitely say you should watch it! I feel like this and This Is Us are the only shows that have ever made me cry…I’m so so ready for season 15 to come out!!

Wow…that was a long post. How’s your life going? Do you watch any of these shows? Do you have any recommendations for me? I’d love to hear from you 🙂

current favorites

Hey guys! It’s been a long week for me, but I thought I’d make it a little happier by showing you some of my current favorite things! These are honestly pretty random, but they are all things that I’ve been really enjoying recently.

Anyways…I’ll get into the post 🙂

Maybelline Total Temptation Waterproof Mascara

Related image

I think I’ve found my favorite mascara…and this is it. (wow, are you surprised haha)

Actually though, this mascara is amazing. I’ve always had pretty long eyelashes, but this makes them look amazing and it’s waterproof so it’s a win – win! It’s kind of pricey for drugstore mascara, but I’d say it’s definitely worth it 🙂

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

To All the Boys I've Loved Before Poster

So, I’ve been a fan of these books for a few years now…when I found out a movie was coming out, I started counting down the days until it came out (okay, maybe this is a bit of an exaggeration…but not really) and I watched it the morning it came out. And then I watched it again (like a week later.) Yes, it’s not as good as the books but it’s so cute and happy and makes me smile. If you haven’t watched it yet…you need to.

Elf Eyebrow Kit

Image result for elf eyebrow kit

I only started actually doing my eyebrows (and not just brushing them out) pretty recently, and this is what I got. And I have to say, I totally love it. First of all, it’s super cheap (literally $3) but it also works really well. My eyebrows are really light and this is good for keeping them looking natural 🙂

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again soundtrack

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again Poster

I’ve seen the first movie many, many times. Like at least 10. And I went to see the movie a few days after it came out and oh my gosh, it’s amazing. I think I like it better than the first one…? But I’ve been kind of obsessed with the soundtrack (which is definitely not a bad thing 🙂 ) The movie was the kind of movie that you never want to end…it made me so happy.

Muji gel pens (0.38)

Related image

I love these pens so so much! I use them in my bullet journal and they are amazing-they don’t bleed through pages, they have nice colors, and they somehow make my handwriting better?? Or maybe that’s just me writing nicely…anyways, I can’t recommend them enough 🙂

What things are you loving right now? Do you like any of these things? Have you watched the second Mamma Mia movie yet?? I’d love to hear from you 🙂

morning in my life // the first day of school

Hey guys, I hope you are all having amazing days 🙂 wow I’m so cheesy… I’m always a huge fan of day in the life posts, but I feel like whenever I try to do them I either a) forget to take photos or b) get wayyy too in depth.

And since I finally started school this week* I decided to do a kind of get ready with me/morning in the life for the first day of school.

Also-since I am in school now and have a bunch of things to do (homework, sports, stress about school) I won’t be as active blogging during the week-I’ll be still reading other posts and things, but mainly on the weekends.

* I have mixed feelings…

divider

So…here’s how I got ready for the first day of school!

(I’m not putting times because they wouldn’t be exact or even that similar)

I started off my day by waking up to my alarm, an hour and 15 minutes before I had to leave. I don’t usually wake up this early, but since it was the first day I decided to put in a little extra effort.

I got dressed in my first day of school outfit. It’s super plain because at my school, the first day of school is also picture day (yay…) so I wanted something that would look good in a photo. Here’s my outfit…

outfit

sorry this photo is so low quality…my phone photos aren’t great in bad lighting and there was a lot of cropping involved. Basically, I wore a purple boyfriend tee shirt from H & M and ripped jeans from Old Navy (and of course, white converse :))

After that I headed to the kitchen to get some breakfast and drink some water. For some reason I was not hungry at all, so I decided to just eat an apple:

apple

Then I started getting ready: I washed my face, brushed my teeth, etc. Since it was picture day I decided to straighten my hair (even though it’s already pretty straight.) So I did that and put on some basic makeup: concealer, mascara, bronzer, and eyebrow stuff. makeup

here’s my makeup…let me know if you guys would be interested in seeing a makeup routine post/my favorite products!

Finally, I grabbed my lunch and backpack and left for school (where I had a great day 🙂 )

How did you get ready for the first day of school? Would you be interested in seeing my makeup routine or my favorite makeup products? I’d love to know what you guys think 🙂

back to school tips

Wow, it’s already back to school season…and I somehow haven’t done a back to school post yet! I’ve honestly been avoiding thinking about school because I still have a few weeks, but it’s coming soon and I know that it’s already here for some people.

So…I thought I’d give some of my tried and true tips for school, notes, studying, and everything in between. I’ve been seeing these types of posts all over the blogosphere, so hopefully these aren’t too generic (I tried to think outside of the box…)

Anyways…I’ll get into the post 🙂

bring a water bottle to school (and refill it!)

I got really into doing this last year and it was sooo nice. I’d fill my water bottle and put a slice or two of lemon in it, then refill it at least once during the day. idk why but drinking water makes me feel so productive and more awake…plus it’s really good for you.

divider

use audiobooks

This year I had summer reading, and I kind of read the books too early…so my plan is to listen to the audiobooks before school starts so I actually remember what happened. If you’re a multitasker, audiobooks are great because you can be doing other things while reading. I usually borrow them from the library…

divider

make your notes pretty (but keep them simple)

notes
here are some of my notes from last year!

I LOVE looking at pinterest pictures of really pretty notes, and I’ve definitely tried to recreate them…sometimes, though, all the different colors and highlighters and everything get super distracting and in the way. So I’ve started writing my notes mainly in black with one or two other colors, and either not highlighting or just using one color. It’s so much easier to study…

divider

study groups (or buddies)

Last year this helped me SO MUCH. I have one friend who I was taking a lot of the same classes as, and before finals (and during lunch sometimes) we got together and studied and reviewed with each other. It’s a really good way to ask questions and learn things and it can be pretty fun (especially if you bring food 😉)

divider

be nice to your teachers

This is basically a no-brainer but it helps so so much. If your teachers like you they’ll probably be more responsive (compared to if you’re rude in class, etc.) Also, raising your hand in class a lot helps them get to know you so you’ll be remembered (and maybe you’ll get better grades?)

divider

use a planner

Wow this is so generic BUT it’s so true. I’m always kinda amazed when I see people not using a planner or anything, just trying to remember homework assignments in their head. Planners are so useful! They help me be less stressed and there are sooo many types that anyone can find one.

divider

get people to edit your essays

Hey it’s another thing I did last year! Seriously though, this helps so much. I had a group of about 5 people and we’d all share essays with each other over google drive and edit them, and I think that it helped me get way better grades! I’d definitely recommend doing this if you can.

divider

find a system that works for you

Some people use binders, some use folders, some a mix…it kind of depends on what works best for you. It sometimes takes some experimenting and maybe a few years but it’s worth finding something that works because it will make getting organized so much easier.

divider

actually eat breakfast (or at least bring food)

Yeah, so I didn’t eat breakfast for a while…it was not very good. Instead, I’d bring food and eat it in first or second period. Bringing food to eat is better than not eating at all, but honestly breakfast is really good, so make time to eat it.

divider

make sure your backpack is big enough

Wow. Yes, this is super obvious but I feel like it gets overlooked a lot. Make sure all of you stuff will fit in your backpack!! If not your school year will be a struggle…my backpack is huge, and it’s so nice because I can put a lot of stuff in it without worrying about being able to zip it.

divider

use flashcards

I used quizlet to study for basically every French test or quiz that I had this year, and it helped so much. I don’t really use it for other classes regularly (I will sometimes) but it’s definitely a lifesaver for foreign languages.

When do you start school? Do you use any of these tips? What tips do you have to add? I’d love to hear from you 🙂

my summer in books

I have read SO many books this summer. And I was thinking about writing this post, and also thinking about writing a summer recap. And then I realized…the books I’ve read (and where and when I read them) actually tell a really good story of my summer! Obviously, I can’t remember every book that I read this summer (because I got lazy and stopped tracking them…) but I figured this was a good way to combine these posts into one (hopefully interesting) post.

Also guys! If you haven’t already, make sure to check out Olivia’s giveaway for her two year blogaversary! She was a part of my blog tour and is amazing ❤

Oh, and I’m going to put some other things I did this summer down at the bottom (because I didn’t read books while I was doing them…) 🙂

So, I’ll start from the beginning…

*all book covers are linked to goodreads

waiting for school to end

All the Light We Cannot See

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

Okay. It wasn’t technically summer when I read this book. But. It was so so amazing that I had to include it. I remember sitting on my living room couch with tears streaming down my face when I finished it. If you haven’t read it…you need to.

divider

at summer camp

Turtles All the Way Down     Water for Elephants

Turtles All the Way Down by John Green

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

I LOVE camp so much-those two weeks are honestly the highlight of my year. I always seem to not bring enough books so I end up borrowing them from my friends…(I think I read like 6 books this year…) but these were definitely two highlights. I really loved Turtles All the Way Down (I think I read it in 2 days…) and was pretty proud of myself for guessing the ending like 3 pages before it was revealed. Water for Elephants was definitely not the kind of book I normally read but I really enjoyed it too 🙂

divider

while backpacking

1984

1984 by George Orwell

I take a backpacking trip every summer with my aunt, and this year was no exception. This year I had to read 1984 for school, so I brought it with me and read it while sitting in a tent and in the car…I didn’t particularly enjoy this book (probably because of all the analyzing I had to do) but it was ok, I guess?

divider

while on an airplane

Brave New World

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

Well. Another book I had to read for school…I’m still not really sure how I feel about it -honestly, I’d just describe it as weird. But I read most of it while on an airplane (after my computer died and I couldn’t watch any more movies…)

divider

while on vacation

Uncommon Type: Some Stories

Uncommon Type by Tom Hanks

This was where I took the airplane! I can’t say where I was (privacy) but it was for a wedding, which was a lot of fun 🙂 I also finally read Tom Hanks’ book of short stories, which I really enjoyed. Like with most short stories collections, I liked some more than others, but it was a good book.

divider

throughout the summer

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)

the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

This summer, I made rereading Harry Potter one of my goals. And I fell in love with the series again – there were so many little things that I had forgotten that made me so happy upon rereading it!

divider

some other notable things I did this summer

Hey, I did other things this summer than read! Some of these include…

  • learned how to drive! (not as hard as it seems)
  • saw a lot of relatives
  • hung out with friends (although not as often as I’d have liked…)
  • got completely caught up with Grey’s Anatomy (I’m so ready for season 15!!)
  • started this blog (how could I forget this one? :))
  • went to 2 weddings (in the course of one week :))

So overall, I had a pretty amazing summer! What did you do this summer? Have you read any of these books? I’d love to hear from you!
